Songs of Anacreon is a collection of works attributed to the Greek poet Anacreon, who lived in the 6th century BC. Anacreon became famous as a master of light lyrical poetry that celebrates love, wine, and the joy of life. His songs, full of grace and subtle humor, were popular in antiquity and have inspired poets for centuries.
Although many of the works from the so-called "Anacreontea" come from later periods, they share a characteristic tone and themes that hark back to Anacreon's original style. In Poland, the poet's works were translated by figures such as Adam Asnyk and Jan Kochanowski, ensuring that his timeless vision of an Epicurean life reached Polish readers.
This edition is based on volume V of Poezje Brunona hrabi Kicińskiego published in Warsaw in 1841.
